Is Apple buying Twitter!?!?

May 5th, 2009

A couple of popular tech blogs are reporting Tuesday that Apple may have some interest in acquiring Twitter in an all-cash deal, though neither publication is able to substantiate the rumors or outline a clear-cut strategy that would serve to motivate the iPhone maker into such a deal.

For those unaware, Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that lets users broadcast short messages of up to 140 characters — known as tweets — to other users who subscribe to their feeds, known as followers.

Twitter usage has skyrocket in recent months as celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Britney Spears have adopted the service as means of communicating with their fans. A variety of applications that let users tweet from their iPhones have also helped matters and emerged as some of the App Store’s most popular downloads.
It’s estimated that there are now approximately 25 million Twitter users worldwide, a figure which has been swelling at a rate of 40 percent each week ever since Oprah announced her plans last month to incorporate the service into her daily routine, says TechCrunch.

The technology blog was one of the publications to report Tuesday that Apple may be talks to acquire Twitter for $700 million in cash, citing “a normally reliable source” as saying that, “Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June.”

Still, the publication immediately hedged its bets, explaining that it contacted other sources who would presumably be familiar with the matter if it was indeed materializing only to have them express no knowledge of such a situation.

“If these discussions are happening, Twitter is keeping them very quiet indeed,” wrote TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington, who added that he would have passed on reporting the dubious rumor entirely had it not begun to find its way onto other technology blogs.

Arrington was likely referring to a report that cropped up a few hours earlier over at rival tech blog ValleyWag, which cited a “source who’s plugged into the Valley’s deal scene and has been recruited by Apple for a senior position” as passing on similar, if not exactly the same, details.

In neither report, however, is there a compelling argument waged as to where an acquisition of Twitter would fit into Apple’s strategy, though ValleyWag did give it a shot by claiming the deal would land Apple seasoned engineers in tune with modern Web culture.

Founded in 2006, Twitter has yet to devise a way to profit from its success and continues to run on solely on venture capital. After reportedly turning down a buyout offer from FaceBook north of half a billion, the company in January began pitching a $250 million valuation to venture capitalists in an effort to secure more cash and maintain its course.

New iPod In-Ear Headphones, Apples best yet.

May 3rd, 2009

New iPod In-Ear Headphones: Apples best yet

After a false start two years ago, Apple has released a new set of in-ear buds that are finally worth trading up to from the company’s own pack-in models and which may well compete against third-party earbuds that are significantly above its price class. We explain why.

The first attempt: the original In-Ear Headphones

Of all the iPod accessory markets Apple has dipped into since launch over seven years ago, the company has ironically been the most conservative around personal audio. It wasn’t until 2005 that Apple offered anything more than a replacement set for the (necessarily) cheap earbuds that have always come with the company’s portable music players.

These buds, the first iPod In-Ear Headphones, have commonly been regarded as outright flops. They only cost $39, but it was painfully obvious that this was Apple’s first attempt and that it was built to a price. The flush, almost conical shape was very difficult to keep in one’s ear even in ideal conditions, and most of the improvement in audio quality simply came from moving the sound deeper into your ear opening.

As such, there was almost no incentive to buy Apple’s own take on higher-end earbuds; unless you just had to have the lanyard set for the early iPod nano, you were better-off buying something in a similar price range or slightly higher that fit better and had more than just a passive audio enhancement. And of course, in the era of iPhone and iPod touch, the absence of either a microphone or a remote was virtually a deal breaker.

Comfort and fit options

The new earbuds are, in a sense, an admission by Apple that the original design didn’t work: the new design has a right-angled shape that fits much more directly.

To say it’s an improvement in stability would be an understatement. The new buds can be inserted deeply enough into the ear passage that there’s little if any room for them to slip out, although they do require a degree of “massaging” (really, wiggling) to get a perfect fit. Running with the In-Ear set didn’t jostle it out of place or create any real doubts.

But some people still prefer the old ones, would you buy them?

Don’t mess with me apple!

May 3rd, 2009

mactouch2

You know that feeling you get when something wonderful is announced and you start exploring the possibilities in your mind just to be let down. like the Simpson’s movie you’d think that after decades of writing scripts you’d be able to come up with something that was at least bearable. Some others are indoor roller coasters, the sham-wow and captain crunch oops all berries.

penny

So what is apple doing with all of those 10 inch touch screens? what ever it is I hope it’s not any of these machines pictured above (one of which a high school student made in 3DS MAX). These non-existent computers are great but I want more.  I want a big screen, remarkably thin, machined aluminum case running iphone-like software but I want to use it with word, powerpoint, photoshop and games. I want everything the iphone has plus more! I want a full computer with a simple touch interface that can log onto the internet from anywhere over 3G acting as a phone. I want to be like Penny from the 80’s cartoon inspector gadget! and I don’t want to be taken for a ride I want it all in the first generation! apple has a habit for messing with it’s customers and sandbagging their innovations to force front end users to buy a new ___________ every year!

This is what I want:

Software

  • Apple OSX touch
  • run real software
    • ilife, iwork, imovie, word, excel, powerpoint,  photoshop, illustrator, etc.
  • iphone-like apps
    •  games, restaurant finders… but better!

Hardware

  • full HD quality and multi touchscreen
  • near zero bezel
  • as thin as structurally possible! (less than .5 inches)
  • machined Alluminum enclosure with mirror apple symbol
  • 256 SSD hard drive
  • docking station
    • I want to use it as a tv
    • use cookbook apps

Ports

  • Ipod 30 pin connector
  • USB ports (printers, keybords, external drives, etc.)
  • Firewire 800 (Macbook Air should get it too)
  • Mini diplay port
  • Headphone

Sensors

  • GPS
  • multi-touch
  • accelerometer
  • light sensor
  • Camera with video support

Other stuff

  • on board data service option (pick your carrier yourself)
  • Stereo bluetooth support
  • full size touch screen qwerty keyboard (letters only)
  • a touch screen thumb keyboard for when your carrying it

And I want it all for under $1000 dollars.

If apple could do this I would buy two of them!

May 2nd, 2009

So the Apple MacMook Mini is just nothing more than a russian april fools joke. Who would want it anyway. Every time I see one of those netbooks I cring at the idea that I would ever use such a funtionless machine. Running a normal OS on a machine a little bigger than a gameboy. I want a machine designed well and an operating system costom made for that machine.

introducing mac touch

June 9th, 2008

Our sources let us in on the new tablet from apple which we’ve named the mac touch. We have some of the planned specs including a full multi-touch OLED display, thinner than the macbook air, and will not have an optical drive. The mac touch will run on OS X 10.6 which will combine the keyboard and mouse cocoa which has been traditionally run on Apple machines with the cocoa touch interface that runs on the iphone and ipod touch. OS X 10.6 will work much like what Microsoft boasts with the recent demonstration of windows 7. From what we’ve heard the new apple tablet will be on the market by 2009.

A Review on the Mac Airport Extreme

June 6th, 2008

The Mac Airport Extreme has amazing functionality and design as we all know. Its ability to share a printer, external HDD and share UP TO 50 USERS puts this beast at the TOP of the list of routers avalible.

This router also comes with 4 GIGABIT ports and a usb port which you can use to share an external HDD or a printer over your wireless network. This allows you to have 1 centralized printer that you didn’t have to connect your computer to, to use.  This means that if you are working downstairs while watchin tv or even in your room, all you have to do is click print for your computer to wirelessly print your document to the printer thats connected to the printer. This is a HUGE advantage over buying a printer with wireless built-in because they, ALONE, cost at least $150.

Sharing and HDD over a wireless network is not an easy task either, that is, if you don’t have an Airport Extreme. The External HDD that have this feature, too, run at at least $110. Therefore, if your buy a 500Gb for $50 from like newegg, get an external drive for $10-20, and connect the thing to your router, voala, you’ve got your self a wireless HDD.

Another feature that is extremely useful, is the new wireless protection, WPA2. WPA2 is a new protocol approved for use that has a higher encryption than the previous versions that allows you to run a more secure, and private network. This in turn equals, protected data and increased speed. The one down side is that if you have XP, you will need to download a 600 Kb file to allow your computer to read WPA2 protected systems.

The New iPod Commercial

June 6th, 2008

The new iPod commercial aired a few days ago.  It is definitely one of their coolest ads yet.  The ad looks as though it may have pushed the limits of CGI and animation to the max.  It uses a tremendous amount of colored smoke that doesn’t actually exist.  The people were also filmed and had their background removed and they were changed to black and white.  One of the coolest features is the color motions that come off the instrument.  The commercial is aired constantly on the TV and shows up on many HD channels, where it not only looks amazing but the sound quality is also amazing.  The song is a great choice for the ad, and it is available to watch on Apple’s website via the link below, oir you can search for it on YouTube. iPod + iTunes TV ad

The First Ergnomic Keyboard for Mac

June 6th, 2008

The first ergonomic keyboard has come to Mac.  The Kinesis Freestyle Solo not only has adjustable incline angle, but numerous hotkeys, extra wide command keys, it’s user-friendly, and it can separate into two pieces. It has nice wrist supports, and also helps with palm movements.  Yes, it looks like one of the weirdest keyboards you could ever buy, but it probably has more pro’s than con’s.  It starts at $99, and $40 for each added accessory.
